Where can I work?

In your reservations, select the area you want to work in by looking at the drop down menu! There’s plenty of options. The drop-down menu will show you the areas we have work available in. It will also tell you what hours we operate there, based on available reservations. Generally speaking, we operate from 8am-midnight in most areas - but reservations offer more clarity here.

Starting to work and hours/reservations explained

*You must be in your reserved area to log in*

Once your account is active, you’ll see a button to start working and your hours available for the pay period (pay period further explained under payments).

Our pay periods are from Thursday through Wednesday. You’re welcome to use Relay as much as you like up until your weekly limit is met (limits can vary by pay period). Hours reset every Thursday. You are not required to use Relay for all available hours. You decide when and how much you want to use Relay, up until the limit is met. If you finish your hours for the pay period, you’ll need to wait for the pay period to reset to continue using Relay and earning money.

To log in, we recommend making a reservation to lock yourself in. So long as you have a reservation and maintain good connectivity, you will be able to continue working. Head to the reservations tab in your application and select the hours you plan to use Relay for the next day. Make sure you’re in the correct zone to log in (if you’re not, you won’t be able to log in)! Once your reservation is made, you’ll have up to 20 minutes to show up before it’s cancelled.

Pro-tips: Remember about the 20 minute grace period, but don’t be too dependent on it! Reservations cancel automatically once the 20 minute period hits, so try to reserve a time you’re more positive about being on time for.

Using the Relay application

Ready to start earning? Hit “Start working” (make sure you are where you reserved)! Once logged in, you’ll be paid for using the application and completing deliveries.

When you accept an order, you’ll be prompted to go to the restaurant and pick up orders. Once you arrive at the restaurant, the application will give you the name of the orders you’re there to pick up. Kindly notify a restaurant employee and they’ll give you the corresponding orders. Only pick up what is assigned to you. Once you confirm picking up the orders, you’ll be prompted to drop them off at the customer’s addresses. Easy!

If you accept an order or pick up a delivery, it’s expected that you complete the task ASAP. Failure to arrive at a restaurant or customer’s address may result in loss of account access.

App connectivity

Make sure you say yes to GPS settings when installing the application and ensure GPS is always on while logged into the application (even if it’s not open). This will ensure you don’t have connectivity issues that will log you out unnecessarily.

While you’re online, we recommend checking your application frequently (every 3-5 minutes) to ensure you’re properly connected. Failure to maintain a steady connection could log you out from the application due to inactivity.

Payments

As previously stated, our pay period is Thursday through Wednesday. Deposits arrive the following Tuesday. You will collect a fee of $13.35 an hour plus tips while using the Relay application.

As you are an independent contractor, we will not deduct any taxes. Instead, you’ll receive a 1099 form the following year confirming how much you made in the previous fiscal year. The stride health application is recommend to keep track of your expenses as a contractor, which can be used for future tax deductions.

We bonus during inclement weather, and there’s additional bonuses per order for working during our initial stages. Relay bonuses at its sole discretion and reserves the right to discontinue or diminish bonuses without notice. You can do very well if you’re logged in during our lunch and dinner rushes (11am-2pm and 6pm-9pm). Inclement weather can lead to especially busy days!

Head to the direct deposit tab in the application where you can add your payment information. Make sure you put in your correct account and routing numbers here. Not sure what these are? Contact your bank and you’ll have that info in no time! We recommend adding this information as soon as you’re activated to ensure you’re paid as soon as your first corresponding pay period is completed.

Cash orders — most orders are prepaid, but some restaurants accept cash payment. If you receive a cash order, the application will make it super clear you need to collect cash from the corresponding customer. You shouldn’t pay for this order up front, nor bring the cash payment back to the restaurant. Instead, the total order cost of the food will be deducted from your corresponding shift and paycheck. We recommend carrying some cash on you in case customers request change.

Common troubleshooting

Customer isn’t answering the phone? Please contact the restaurant and await further instructions. Think of it this way: every time you pick up a delivery you’re working in tandem with that restaurant to ensure the customer gets their food. The food belongs to the restaurant, so you should ensure they’re aware of any potential issues! Most restaurants will try to contact customers themselves if they’re not answering. If they’re unable to touch base (or if no one is answering your calls, period), we recommend returning the food to the restaurant since it is theirs. This way, you’re no longer responsible for that order. Best of all, you’ll keep the tip on the order since you made an attempted delivery and it’s not your fault the customer didn’t answer. Any subsequent delivery will come with a $2.50 tip charged to the restaurant as a re-delivery.

Restaurant taking too long? If you feel like you’ve been waiting too long, we recommend kindly asking how much longer it might be until the food is ready. Remember, you have the option of leaving the restaurant if they’re taking too long or if the order was cancelled. Make sure you use the “leave now without taking any orders button”

TLDR: Always call the customer. ALWAYS call the restaurant if you can’t get in touch with the customer. Can’t get in touch with the restaurant or customer? Please return the food to the restaurant!

Misc. Questions

What could lead me to losing Relay access?

Always maintain professional behavior. As a reminder, any abuse of the platform will result in immediate loss of access. This includes being reported for negative encounters with restaurant partners or customers.

Any activities deemed to be abuse of the platform will result in loss of platform access. This includes but is not limited to: taking longer than the industry standard to arrive at restaurant partners or dropping off orders, being reported for having a negative encounter with a restaurant or one of their customers, using your account to make reservations for other people, etc. The best way to ensure you don’t have any issues is to arrive at restaurants and customers in a safe, timely, and professional manner! Also, we recommend not making reservations if you don’t plan to use the application!

Why am I not receiving orders? — First of all, make sure you’re connected and logged in! If you’re still not receiving orders, it could be because you’re too far from your reserved area. We recommend logging in there and riding back there after completing deliveries! It’s also possible that it’s just slow while you’re logged in. Try working during our rush hours (11am-2pm and 6pm-10pm) instead. Picking up and delivering orders is the only way to maximize your earnings.

Anything else I should know? — If you plan to use the application frequently, it’s worth investing in an external battery! Once you’re disconnected, no more opportunities for earning!

We recommend using pizza racks on your bikes! We hope to work with many pizzerias soon. Pizza orders generally have higher tips too so it’s a good way to make money back on your investment!

Make sure you also have good gear for inclement weather (rain, snow, etc.). Being online during days with poor weather can lead to big $$$
